The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office has filed 32 counts of forgery and one count of grand theft against a woman who allegedly stole more than $89,000 from Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao.

Pia Anatalia Quijada, 27, was arrested Monday and arraigned Wednesday, pleading not guilty. Law enforcement officials identify Quijada as the wife of Pacquiao’s driver. Her attorney said in court that Pacquiao is the godfather of one of her four children.

She was held on $90,000 bail.

According to a news release from the D.A., Pacquiao is ‘not familiar with the U.S. banking system, so [he] asked the defendant to assist him.’ The complaint against Quijada alleges that she forged 32 checks and collected $89,383.49 between Jan. 18, 2007, and Jan. 26, 2008.

Quijada is due back in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Feb. 4.

Pacquiao, who last week signed to fight England’s Ricky Hatton in a junior welterweight bout May 2 in Las Vegas for a guaranteed $12 million, is expected to return to Los Angeles for training in March.
