The Kings begin a five-game, 11-day trip Saturday when they face the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre. In fact, they’ll play 12 of their next 16 games on the road -- a key stretch in their pursuit of the playoff pack.

Don’t blame the NHL schedulemakers for this, though -- this home-road imbalance. Blame other events at Staples Center -- including the Grammy Awards show and the World Figure Skating Championships -- for pushing the Kings, Lakers and Clippers out of the building.

For the Kings, who have played a league-high 30 home games, leaving town isn’t necessarily a bad thing, according to team captain Dustin Brown.

‘Honestly, I think the road might be a good thing for us. We’ve been home so much,’ he said. ‘The only tough thing about being on the road is that all the travel can wear you down, but I think being on the road is good for us to get away from Southern California.

‘For me, it’s not too bad.’

Why isn’t it bad? Because Brown has a nearly 1-year-old son toddling around the house and tiring him out, so by going on the road he can actually get some sleep.

The Kings aren’t televising Saturday’s game or Tuesday’s game at Ottawa, and that means FS West analyst Jim Fox will have a little time on his hands. We’re putting him to work: Fox has graciously agreed to blog for ‘The Fabulous Forum’ during Saturday’s game, sharing his thoughts on the Canadiens’ resurgence during the franchise’s 100th anniversary season and the Kings’ performance against one of the top teams in the East.

We look forward to it.
