The buyer of the Chicago Cubs is now known: the Ricketts family. The price: about $900 million.

The Chicago Tribune broke the news that the family, led by Chicago-based Tom Ricketts, edged out the other bidders -- Chicago real-estate investor Hersch Klaff and New York private-equity investor Marc Utay, a Chicago native.

The Ricketts family, whose discount stock brokerage became the Internet trading powerhouse now known as TD Ameritrade Holding Corp., will take over the storied franchise from Tribune Co., owners of The Los Angeles Times among, other media properties.
