Last night, Penn State Coach Joe Paterno and USC Coach Pete Carroll had a chance to hang out off the field.

The 82-year-old JoePa ended up entertaining Carroll, 57, with tales of the past.

‘He was telling stories all night long about former coaches or players or games,’ Carroll told reporters today. ‘He’s a remarkable person, you know, to be able to carry this kind of spirit for so long through his career. He might be the living image of Benjamin Button.’

Paterno took the comparison to the character who ages in reverse as a compliment, although he didn’t entirely understand the reference to the film starring Brad Pitt.

‘I’ve seen two movies in the last 40 years: ‘E.T.’ and ‘Titanic,’’ he said. ‘I don’t go to movies. I’m sure Pete meant it in a very nice way. And I’m going to write him a note and tell him thanks.’
