Ducks 1, Panthers 1 (end of first period).

Things couldn’t have started much better for the Ducks Sunday.

Corey Perry waltzed in from the left and flicked a shot that beat Florida goaltender Craig Anderson on the short side 1 minute 41 seconds into the first period. A ho-hum Sunday beating up on the worst team in the NHL?

Well, the Ducks started playing like they knew they were facing the worst team in the NHL. The Panthers dominated much of the period, getting a tying goal when Ducks’ goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere was woefully out of position. Florida’s David Booth tucked in a backhander for a 1-1 tie four minutes into the game.

The Ducks had chances, usually by Perry, throughout the period, but also gave up chances.

On the bright side, the Ducks, who lead the NHL in penalty minutes, had only one player sent to the box, leaving them on pace for what would be a season-low in penalties.
