Whew, dodged that bullet. I think.

The Lakers’ new guard Sun Yue seemed to have a good sense of humor at his introductory news conference last week, pointing to a mole near his left ear and saying it was the genesis of his nickname, Q-tip.

Many reporters laughed.

A day later, however, a feeling of intense fatigue prompted Sun to check into an emergency room where he was diagnosed with mononucleosis.

I stopped laughing. After all, I shook his hand when I introduced myself to him a day earlier.

Ten days later, still no sign of mononucleosis for me, or any Lakers officials or players, though I did take a nap yesterday. Doctors even cleared Sun to begin practicing today, saying he was no longer contagious.

Good news for him. Make that good news for everybody around him.

I think I’ll go back to bed now.
