How is Randy Moss doing as a NASCAR owner? Gradually better.

This summer, the New England Patriots receiver bought half of a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team that fields the No. 81 Chevrolet Silverado. The renamed Randy Moss Motorsports, which has used several different drivers, struggled to finish in the top 10 in its first few races.

But with Donny Lia at the wheel, Moss’ truck finished 10th at Las Vegas on Sept. 20. And Saturday at Talladega, Ala., rookie Landon Cassill brought Moss’ truck home in sixth after starting 25th.

Cassill, nonetheless, signaled that Moss faces lots of work ahead, saying ‘Moss Motorsports is in need for a sponsor in 2009.’

Meanwhile, on the NFL field, Moss caught five passes for 111 yards Sunday as the Patriots defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 30-21.
