Error is heaven sent for Angels

The Angels struck first in Game 1 of their American League division series against Boston at Angel Stadium, scoring a third-inning run after shortstop Jed Lowrie booted a grounder up the middle off the bat of Vladimir Guerrero.

The ball popped out of Lowrie’s glove as he moved to his left, putting runners on first and second for Torii Hunter, who flared a run-scoring single in front of hard-charging left fielder Jason Bay to give the Angels a 1-0 lead. No way Manny Ramirez makes that play either, by the way.

The Angels are attempting to end a nine-game playoff losing streak against Boston, having last defeated the Red Sox in Game 4 of the 1986 American League championship series. The Angels have lost seven consecutive postseason games overall going back to the 2005 ALCS against the Chicago White Sox.
