The Manny Ramirez trade just became a lot more popular in New England.

Jason Bay, Ramirez’s replacement in the trade-deadline deal, hit a two-out, two-run homer in the sixth inning to give Boston a 2-1 lead over the Angels in Game 1 of the American League division series. The homer, on a 90-mph offering from John Lackey, was a no-doubter that easily cleared the left-field wall.

Lackey had been dominant to that point, stranding all three runners in scoring position. Kevin Youkilis walked with one out in the sixth and scored on Bay’s blast. Jon Lester, who gave up an unearned run in the third inning after an error by shortstop Jed Lowrie, struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth.
