It wasn’t long ago that Lindsay Lohan was the butt of jokes on ‘Glee.’ But now it appears the actress is set to guest star in the series’ third season.

The actress’ rep confirmed to People magazine that she would be appearing on the Fox series this season. Though it wasn’t specified what role she’d be playing, other reports have suggested she’d be playing a judge at the Nationals competition in the season finale.

What’s most surprising about Lohan’s guest appearance is that as recently as last season, the show’s writers were making mean jokes about her. The first dig came in a second season episode in late 2010 in which guest star Gwyneth Paltrow, playing a Spanish teacher, taught her class to say sentences en Espanol such as ‘Lindsay Lohan is totally crazy, right?’ and ‘How many times has Lindsay Lohan been to rehab?’

Lohan was quite upset about the jokes, according to her mother, Dina, who later told RadarOnline, ‘Lindsay was watching it while in Betty Ford, then she called me and was upset and said, ‘Why did she have to do that?’’

The cast of ‘Glee’ reportedly apologized in person to Lohan during a chance encounter in early 2011.

Dina Lohan herself became the target of the next ‘Glee’ jab a couple of months later during the highly viewed post-Super Bowl episode in 2011 in which guest star Katie Couric tells Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) after a cheer stunt gone wrong that she’s beat out Dina Lohan and her dog, ‘Sparky Lohan’ for the Loser of the Year award.

Again, Dina expressed her displeasure in the media at the ‘Glee’ mockery.

But it appears that’s all water under the bridge. The younger Lohan has been making a concerted effort to get her career back on track lately. She recently hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’ to the show’s second highest ratings of the season.

Lindsay isn’t the only big star to be appearing on ‘Glee’ in the closing episodes of the season. Whoopi Goldberg, ‘White Collar’ star Matthew Bomer and Gloria Estefan will make appearances in the weeks before graduation.
