After five seasons, ‘Jersey Shore’s’ Snooki and JWoww are moving inland.

An untitled spinoff featuring Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi and Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley is set to start filming on the mean streets of Jersey City, N.J.

The Associated Press reports that producers have been given filming permits and will begin shooting the series in and around the neighborhood near Jersey City’s Grove Street PATH station.

The show’s producers were denied a permit to film in nearby Hoboken, N.J., last week, citing quality-of-life concerns for the city’s residents, and the inhabitants of Jersey Shore, Pa., didn’t want the show there either. But Jersey City’s mayor, Jerramiah Healy, sees the filming as a good way to promote the city. Has he seen ‘Jersey Shore’?

Of course, the question may not be if Snooki and JWoww are good for Jersey City, but if Jersey City is good for Snooki and JWoww. Recent FBI statistics show a slight rise in violent crime there, though local police are claiming a drop in assaults over the same time period.

This week, the Jersey Journal reported on a standing-room-only Jersey City Council meeting where local residents took council members to task over the perceived rise in crime in their city.

The city, nicknamed ‘Chilltown,’ lies across the Hudson River from lower Manhattan, and is home to the Colgate Clock, one of the largest timepieces in the world.

To better promote the city, Snooki and JWoww will no doubt take the time to visit Jersey City’s many cultural institutions and really put the best face on a beleaguered urban area.

We can all dream, right?
