The canine costar of “Pit Boss” is the hero of this new holiday tale, with Anthony Robinson, Mackenzie Phillips and Shorty Rossi (6 p.m. Animal Planet).

MOVIES

Out of the Past:

Director Jacques Tourneur’s 1947 drama stars Robert Mitchum as a former private eye who is trying to make a fresh start, but is tracked down by a former client (Kirk Douglas) who has an ax to grind. Jane Greer also stars (5 p.m. TCM).

It’s a Wonderful Life:
Small-town guy George Bailey defers one big dream after another to stay home, marry a local girl (Donna Reed) and run the family business, until facing financial ruin, he’s pulled from suicidal despair by a guardian angel (Henry Travers) who shows him what a terrible place the world would be if he’d never lived. Lionel Barrymore stars in this 1946 holiday classic (8 p.m. NBC).

A Princess for Christmas:
Roger Moore and Katie McGrath star in this tale about a woman fallen on hard times who, a year after taking charge of her orphaned niece and nephew, is invited to spend Christmas with their grandfather — a duke who lives in a castle in Europe (8 and 10 p.m. Hallmark).
