The most impeccably timed guest-spot ever? Robert Wagner will play a murder suspect on an episode of ‘NCIS.’

In an episode that airs Tuesday, Wagner will appear as Anthony DiNozzo Sr., the father, who is found in a car with a dead body.

The timing couldn’t be more interesting. Last week, police announced that they were reopening the investigation into the death of Natalie Wood, who mysteriously disappeared from a yacht off the coast of Catalina Island, which she was on with her then-husband, Robert Wagner, and friend Christopher Walken. Police have not said why they are revisiting the case, but they have said that Wagner is not a suspect.

Authorities ruled her death an accidental drowning at the time. But the boat’s captain, Dennis Davern, who penned a book about Wood’s death in 2009, has recently come out and said thay he lied to investigators about the incident.

Wagner released a statement soon after the case was reopened, expressing his family’s support for the reinvestigation.

Wagner’s appearance on the CBS procedural actually marks his return to the show -- he previously appeared as the same character in the 150th episode of the series
