On Tuesday night’s episode of ‘The Daily Show,’ Jon Stewart celebrated the end of the military’s ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy, which came to an end on Monday at midnight.

The repeal means that gay men and women can serve openly in the armed forces, and that the 13,000 soldiers who were discharged under ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ can reenlist.

‘That’s how ridiculous this policy was,’ Stewart noted. ‘The apology for the affront is, ‘Alright, sorry, you can go to Afghanistan and fight for your country.’’ He also joked that ‘only gay people would remain in good enough shape to be able to reenlist.’

Stewart wanted to see how the new policy was affecting troops on the ground, so he checked in with correspondent Jason Jones,’live via satellite from Afghanistan.’ Decked out in a pair of Daisy Dukes and cropped camouflage T-shirt, Jones declared, ‘This isn’t an army of one, it’s an army of fuuuun!’

In the second segment, Stewart recounted the long history of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell,’ but he ended by taking a look forward. ‘Of course the real concern with repealing ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ was how it would encourage immorality and indecency,’ he said. ‘Not a day after its repeal, we already see the types of people who feel free to flaunt their lifestyle.’

As evidence of the military’s inevitable descent into moral chaos, Stewart played some heartwarming footage of a gay soldier nervously coming out to his father. ‘I will always love you, and I will always be proud of you,’ his father promised.

With a look of faux-disgust on his face, Stewart wondered,’What kind of monsters have unconditional love for their families?’
