‘All My Children’ creator Agnes Nixon to be on show to say goodbye

Agnes Nixon, the woman who created ABC soap “All My Children,” will appear on the show starting Aug. 31. She will play Agnes Eckhart, a longstanding board member of Pine Valley Hospital –- a role she invented for herself in 2005, when the series was celebrating its 35th anniversary.
Nixon is reprising the role on “All My Children” as the show heads for the end of its 41-year run on network television in late September. (It will, however, extend its life as an online entity.)
Other alumnae of the show are stepping up to pay their respects to the drama that launched so many careers. Sarah Michelle Gellar announced during a panel at the Television Critics Assn. media tour last week that she would return to the daytime drama in its final days -- though she won’t be playing her original ‘90s role as Erica Kane’s daughter, Kendall Hart Lang. Carol Burnett will reprise her role as Verla Grubbs.
Some characters are even returning from the grave: Josh Duhamel reappeared in Pine Valley last week as Leo du Pres -– nine years after his character tumbled into a waterfall. He told EW, “I guess in a way it was just my way of saying thank you to go back and do an episode.’
