David ‘Puck’ Rainey, the roommate everyone loved to hate in the early years of MTV’s ‘The Real World,’ was arrested and charged in a domestic violence case.

According to our sister blog L.A. Now, Rainey, 42, was arrested by Los Angeles police earlier this week in Mission Hills and booked on suspicion of felony corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant. Rainey, who appeared in the third season (set in San Franscisco) of MTV’s long-running reality show, remains in custody at the Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail and is due in San Fernando court July 6.

It’s not Rainey’s first scrape with the law. In 2009, he was sentenced to a year in Los Angeles County Jail after pleading no contest to charges of battery on his girlfriend. And in 2010, he was arrested by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Maybe that’s why MTV has kept the Road Rules/Real World battles going for so long — so cast members stay out of trouble?
