James May’s Road Trip: In this new episode the Brit investigates the history of Californian wine in the San Francisco Bay area (7:20 and 10:30 p.m. BBC America).

MasterChef: Amateur chefs compete to become a culinary master and earn the title (and very cool apron) of MasterChef in a new season of this competitive reality series hosted by the most intimidating chef Gordon Ramsay (8 p.m. Fox).

My Yard Goes Disney: Want a Mickey Mouse pool in your yard? How about a “Pirates of the Caribbean” treehouse? In this new series, landscape designers make over the backyards of lucky homeowners with a Disney theme (8 p.m. HGTV).

House Hunters on Vacation: In each episode of this new series, a family is sent to an exotic destination to tour homes and pick one to spend a week in. Taniya Nayak hosts (8:30 p.m. HGTV).

Nurse Jackie: Grace (Ruby Jerins) asks her therapist to prescribe medication for her, while mom Jackie (Edie Falco) is placed on probation for stealing medicine from the oncology department in this new episode (10 p.m. Showtime).

MOVIES

Last Man Standing: Catherine Bell stars as a former special-ops agent who’s living contentedly as a suburban wife and mother when her husband is kidnapped, she has to revisit her past and her training. Anthony Michael Hall and Mekhi Phifer also star in this new TV thriller (8 p.m. Lifetime).

Bobby Fischer Against the World: This new TV documentary profiles the “troubled genius” who fought the Cold War at the chessboard and won the world championship of chess from the Soviet Union’s Boris Spassky in 1972 (9 p.m. HBO).
