Back in mid-May, we told you that Katie Couric was close to signing a deal with Walt Disney Co.’s ABC to host an afternoon talk show. Now a source close to Couric confirms that the announcement will likely come early next week. Couric’s contract with CBS ends June 6.

ABC is also expected to announce that the new talk show will find Couric working with Jeff Zucker, former chief executive of NBCUniversal, who previously teamed up with Couric when he was a producer with NBC’s ‘Today’ and she was the morning show’s co-anchor.

According to people familiar with the situation, Disney Chief Executive Robert A. Iger is interested in bringing Couric to ABC, in part because she’ll help fill the programming void created by Oprah Winfrey’s departure. Disney’s ABC-owned stations carried ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show,’ which recently broadcast its last episode.
