Oprah Winfrey rode out in a blaze of glory.

The hugely publicized finale of Winfrey’s syndicated talk show Wednesday drew her best numbers in 17 years -- a huge 13.3 household rating in the nation’s top TV markets, according to early numbers from the Nielsen Co.

And that doesn’t include St. Louis, which preempted the finale to air coverage of storms that have devastated the area.

The last time Winfrey’s ratings reached that height was back in 1994 during the heyday of daytime talk programs for a show entitled ‘People Shed Their Disguises.’

National figures for Winfrey’s farewell, including total-viewer figures, will not be available for two weeks.
