Move over, Betty White: Cedric the Entertainer is preparing to join a new spinoff of TV Land’s hit ‘Hot in Cleveland,’ which he’s developing with the network. In the untitled sitcom, Cedric will play a minister, and though details are sparse about the spinoff’s premise, his character will premiere on ‘Cleveland,’ which returns in June.

According to TV Land’s release, the series is contingent upon the pilot script, which will be co-written by Cedric and ‘Hot in Cleveland’ creator and showrunner Suzanne Martin. “Cedric is hilarious and I’m so happy to do this show with him,” said Martin in a statement. “We are going to have a lot of fun developing and exploring his role as a minister.”

Cedric joins TV Land at a time when the channel has been adding more original sitcoms to its lineup, including Fran Drescher’s ‘Happily Divorced’ and the ensemble comedy ‘The Exes,’ starring Donald Faison, Wayne Knight, David Alan Basche and Kristen Johnston. Meanwhile, ‘Retired at 35’ will return for its second season and ‘Hot in Cleveland’ for its third. Maybe Cedric could be a love interest for Betty?
