With many months to go before ‘Mad Men’ returns to AMC for a fifth season, some of us are suffering from Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce withdrawal. To help tide us over, our sister blog Hero Complex has an interview with January Jones about her role as Emma Frost in ‘X-Men: First Class.’

Although her ‘mutant telepath’ character is miles away from Betty Draper, Jones was stunned to find that this installment of ‘X-Men’ was set in the 1960s. But she says of her movie character, ‘She’s so, so far from Betty and from ‘Mad Men,’ and it takes place in that time but it doesn’t feel like a period movie.”

Jones says another big difference between the series and the movie is that ‘Mad Men’ producers encouraged her to avoid working out to maintain a muscle-free ‘60s body -- whereas Emma Frost is a notorious cartoon bombshell who wears very skimpy outfits. ‘I’m thinking, ‘I’m supposed to be doing crunches on the plane,’’ she said. ‘How am I gonna get buff in one day? (For more conversation with Jones, check out the interview on Hero Complex.)

Jones isn’t the only ‘Mad Men’ star taking on a geektastic movie role. In late March, Jon Hamm will appear in Zack Snyder’s retro-fantasy epic ‘Suckerpunch’ as bad-guy lobotomist High Roller, while the other John -- John Slattery (a.k.a. Roger Sterling) -- shows up in the science-fiction romance ‘The Adjustment Bureau,’ based on a Philip K. Dick story. It stars Emily Blunt and Matt Damon and hits screens March 4.

Meanwhile, Christina Hendricks (Joan) costars with Ryan Gosling in the slightly less fantastical stunt-driver-turned-getaway-driver movie ‘Drive,’ out this spring. And Elisabeth Moss will zip back in time again to appear in Walter Salles’ adaptation of ‘On the Road.’ But if you need more a immediate fix, look for Rich Sommer (Harry) on ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’ this week on Jan 6, and Alison Brie (Trudy Campbell), who continues to star on the NBC comedy ‘Community.’
