There seems to be no stopping the ‘NCIS’ phenomenon. Now in its eighth season, the crime drama keeps getting bigger.

Tuesday night’s episode -- the first new one since Dec. 14 -- averaged 21.9 million total viewers, the show’s largest audience ever, according to the Nielsen Co.

True, that audience skews old. In viewers age 18 to 49, ‘NCIS’ delivered a 4.5 rating/12 share -- still strong, but not as powerful as the total-viewer figure would lead one to expect.

On Tuesday’s episode, Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his investigators looked into the suspicious death of a Marine on a dinner boat cruise.

Are you a fan of Harmon and the ‘NCIS’ team?
