By now you’ve heard about the lottery winners, the ones who scored Tuesday night with four of Hurley’s ‘Lost’ numbers: 4, 8, 15, and 42.

We reached out to The Island for some reaction and just heard back from ‘Lost’ co-creator Damon Lindelof via e-mail.

What was your initial reaction to hearing this news — that so many people would choose Hurley’s numbers? You think it’s coincidence? Or is The Island speaking to us?

I thought it was totally cool and was glad that it was only 4 out of 6. Had it been 5, people probably would’ve gotten angry at us for getting so close and then dropping the ball. And no, I’m not talking about the finale.

If the numbers brought Hurley such bad luck, why do you think ‘Lost’ fans would pick those numbers?

Because Hurley is awesome.

Have you ever played those numbers?

Nope. Never.

Is it gratifying to know the ‘Lost’ legacy lives on?

That’s the best part. This is usually the time of year that the show comes back on, so it’s this little cool piece of serendipity that the MEGAMILLIONS thing happened when it did ... makes me miss things a little bit less.

Well, that’s funny, because it only makes us miss it more.
