Looks like the undead will live to see another day: On Monday, AMC announced that it has greenlighted a 13-episode second season of its zombie drama, ‘The Walking Dead.’

Based on the comic-book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, the show follows police officer Rick Grimes as he leads a group of survivors through a zombie apocalypse.

Working both as an emotional character study and an intestine-chewing gross-out, the series has already broken records for the network. Its Halloween premiere netted more than 5.3 million viewers, the largest audience for any original-series debut on AMC, and also garnered 3.6 million viewers in the ages 18-to-49 demographic, the highest delivery for any cable series premiere in 2010.
