Since rumors began swirling that ‘Jersey Shore’s’ Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino would be competing on the new season of ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ viewers of that show have hoped that he would be paired with Karina Smirnoff.

ABC announced the pairings Wednesday morning, and the fans got what they wanted: Karina will have to train ‘The Situation,’ and it won’t be easy. As senior producer and head of casting Deena Katz told The Times, the ‘Jersey Shore’ star is still filming that show and will arrive on set to begin ‘DWTS’ rehearsals later than his competitors. ‘The Situation’ will have only one week to prepare for the Sept. 20 premiere.

At least, he wasn’t paired with a hippo, right?

The rest of the teams are:

Michael Bolton and Chelsie Hightower

Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Margaret Cho and Louis Van Amstel

Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke

Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough

David Hasselhoff and Kym Johnson

Florence Henderson and Corky Ballas

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas

Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani

Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya

Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer

‘What I really like about this season is that, on the first night, when you go down the line, every celebrity and pair, it’s a horse race,’ Katz said. ‘I don’t audition these people, so I don’t know how well they dance. But I can say in the past, we’ve had people who had too much dance experience, so I was really trying to get back to the core of what the show is about -- people out of their element learning how to dance.’
