SEASON OPENER:
“The Closer” returns with Brenda (Kyra Sedgwick) and her team moving into new, high-tech quarters, at 9 p.m. on TNT.

SERIES

James May’s Toy Stories: James and crew cultivate a garden made entirely out of Plasticine for London’s Chelsea Flower show in this new episode (7 and 10 p.m. BBC America).

Samantha Brown’s Asia: The intrepid traveler hits the busy streets of Bangkok and then heads to Thailand’s beaches in the premiere of this new series (8 p.m. Travel).

Turmoil and Triumph: The George Shultz Years: This three-part series offers a compelling look inside the workings of the U.S. government at its highest levels while profiling the former secretary of state (10 p.m. KCET).

Rizzoli & Isles: Angie Harmon stars in this new series as hard-nosed Detective Jane Rizzoli, whose best partner in crime solving — medical examiner Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) — is also her best friend. Lorraine Bracco also stars (10 p.m. TNT).

The Human Journey: This new series combines archeology and travel. Up first a visit to Africa (11 p.m. Travel).

MOVIES

Roman Holiday: Audrey Hepburn plays a princess who bolts from the restrictions of royal life, and runs into a debonair fellow (Gregory Peck) who happens to be a reporter in this charming 1953 romantic comedy (5 p.m. TCM).

Good Morning, Vietnam: An Army disc jockey (Robin Williams) in 1965 Saigon turns Armed Forces Radio on its ear with his irreverent brand of humor in this 1987 comedy-drama. Forest Whitaker, Bruno Kirby and J.T. Walsh also star (8 p.m. Cinemax).

A Small Act: Jennifer Arnold’s inspiring documentary tells the life-affirming story of how Hilde Back, a preschool teacher in Sweden, donated $15 a month to help sponsor a promising young Kenyan student, which made it possible for Chris Mburu to attend Harvard Law School and eventually become a United Nations human rights advocate in this new TV drama (9 p.m. HBO).
