Most of the big ‘Chuck’ casting news is from quite a while ago -- Brandon Routh is coming on the show! Kristin Kreuk is coming on the show! Here’s something that shouldn’t be surprising but is: Scott Bakula, currently starring in the new TNT hit ‘Men of a Certain Age’ and, of course, Dr. Sam Beckett from ‘Quantum Leap’ (among other shows), will return to ‘Chuck’ as the title character’s father, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. There’s no official episode count yet, but he will be back for more than one, according to the report.

Bakula’s work on the show last season made for an entertaining and heartfelt arc, as Chuck and Ellie confronted the fact that not only had their dad abandoned them but he’d also invented the Intersect that had so changed Chuck’s life. It all could have seemed crazy coincidental, but Bakula made it seem like the most logical thing an estranged father might do for his son.

In the Entertainment Weekly article, ‘Chuck’ co-creator Josh Schwartz calls the second Bakula arc ‘the biggest thing’ the show’s ever done. Will the episodes live up to that boast? We’ll find out -- probably -- in May.
