Comedy Central gives John Oliver his own stand-up comedy series

John Oliver, a correspondent for ‘The Daily Show with John Stewart’ since 2006, is stepping out into his own show.

Comedy Central has signed the British comedian to star in ‘John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show,’ a six-episode stand-up comedy series premiering Jan. 8.

The show will feature performances from at least four of Oliver’s favorite comedians per episode, including Janeane Garofalo, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Brian Posehn, Paul F. Tompkins, Marc Maron, Nick Kroll and Kristen Schaal.

Oliver has a recurring role as a professor on NBC’s ‘Community.’
