You may not know that DJ AM was a drug addict for a long time and once weighed about 300 pounds.

But soon, America will know that and more, thanks to an MTV new docu-style show, ‘Gone Too Far,’ in which DJ AM, also known as Adam Goldstein, pays forward the fact that his life has been spared twice. The first time happened 11 years ago at a very low point in his crack addiction, when a gun jammed as he tried to kill himself. Last year, he was one of two survivors of a fiery airplane crash in South Carolina.

Now, Goldstein (pictured) wants to do more than play beautiful music. On ‘Gone Too Far,’ he helps the loved ones of addicts stage interventions for them.

‘There’s no reason why I should have lived or why I lived and they didn’t,’ Goldstein said, discussing the plane crash last September. ‘I’m never gonna know. But I am alive and I’m here and I have to do something better with my life now.’ The eight-episode series premieres on Oct. 5.
