On Wednesday, police were called to the home of Mischa Barton, co-star of the upcoming CW series ‘The Beautiful Life: TBL.’

‘Shortly after 3 p.m., a police unit responded to the home of Mischa Barton for a medical issue, which the Police Department is currently helping her with. No one was arrested,’ said Det. Gus Villanueva of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Access Hollywood broke the story today. Sources familiar with the situation said that after the police went to Barton’s house, she was brought to a West L.A. area station to be evaluated.

Her representative, Craig Schneider, issued a statement: ‘Ms. Barton was safely transferred to medical treatment for which she remains hospitalized, as per the recommendation of her doctor.’

Barton became famous for her role on the Fox teen soap ‘The O.C.,’ on which she played the erratic Marissa Cooper. This incident is not her first encounter with the police: In December 2007, she was arrested for drunk driving and possession of marijuana. (She later pleaded no contest.)

‘The Beautiful Life’ is to begin filming in New York City next week, and Barton is scheduled to move there. According to a source at CBS Television Studios, the show’s production has not yet been disrupted. Barton has been cast as an aging -- the actress is 23 -- model.

In an e-mail, Schneider wrote that Barton’s work on the CW show ‘will ultimately be contingent upon her progress and doctor’s orders.’
