Brian Williams is the only network anchor who hasn’t had a shot at interviewing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and the NBC anchor wants the McCain-Palin campaign to know he’s ready to do it –- they just have to say the word.

“I have access to the three metropolitan airports,” Williams told David Letterman on Friday night. “I cannot wait to interview Sarah Palin.

“You know, Katie’s airing Part 17 tonight,” he joked. “And Sarah Palin and Charlie Gibson are in a pottery class together, so I’ve been shut out so far.”

What could account for such oversight? Well, Williams seems to feel it could have something to do with Republican complaints about the political leanings of MSNBC, NBC’s sister cable news network.

“I’ve put a general invite out to the campaign,” the NBC anchor told Letterman. “I’ve asked them about it. We think it’s because they’re unhappy with our cable programming. But I’m here. I’m waiting.”
