‘America’s Best Dance Crew’: Tila and the end

As its second season draws to a close, ‘America’s Best Dance Crew’ can lay claim to being one of the most popular shows on MTV -- it draws celebrity fans, millions of votes (39 million for last year’s finale) and credibility in the hip-hop dance community.
The two crews remaining for Thursday’s finale, Super Cr3w and SoReal Cru, specialize in different types of hip-hop. A smooth, precise style for SoReal Cru and an athletic, b-boy style for Super Cr3w. Each has had great moments this season. SoReal Cru’s snake routine and their overcoming an uncomfortable closeness to create a great routine for Janet Jackson’s ‘I Get So Lonely’ were certainly highlights. Super Cr3w’s ninja routine and gravity-defying feats on ‘We Fly High’ and more are some of the best the show has ever seen (including JabbaWockeeZ -- yeah, i said it).
Beyond the ‘who’s better’ question, this was still a great season. Better than Season 1? Only in that you didn’t (and still don’t) know who was going to win. Sure there were favorites, but unlike last year’s runaway winner, no one knew who would rise to the top because the talent level was so high. The show itself, despite criticism and some questionable voting, was fun, competitive and credible (read more about it here). Even Tila Tequila liked it.
So what will we see? From what I’ve heard there will be some regional performances that will be hot in the finale. SoReal was the most steady and, from the beginning, one of the two or three most popular groups on the stage. There wasn’t a crew in this competition that grew and adapted as much as Super Cr3w. It’s now up to America whether Cru or Cr3w is named Best.
