Irvine Lake trout action good

January 21, 2009 |  1:57 pm

Irvine Lake had a decent week of fishing, despite sporadically windy conditions.
In its fishing report for last week, general manager Dave Noyes said, "The heavy holiday crowds put the fish down a little, but fishing was surprisingly good over the weekend. There are still a lot of big fish being hooked, but they have been breaking lines and getting away if the angler isn't completely ready."

One of those that didn't get away is the pictured 14-pound, 12-ounce rainbow trout, landed by Daniel Han of Riverside, which hit a trolled Rapala at mid-lake.

Most of the fish on stringers are rainbows in the 1- to 5-pound range, with some
6- to 10-pounders being seen daily. There were also some brook and brown trout caught, but no reported catches of bass or catfish.

Irvine Lake is a privately run, paid-entry lake, so no fishing license is required.
