Arrest made in Bristlecone Pine Forest fire case
Eastern Sierra residents may be relieved to learn that an arrest has been made in the case involving the Schulman Grove Visitor Center fire.
Bishop Police Chief Kathleen Sheehan reportedly told members of a town Rotary club that the man is 47 and living in Lone Pine, and that he was not believed to be affiliated with a group.
A spokeswoman for the Inyo County Sheriff's Dept. confirmed that a man was in custody, but added that the investigation regarding the fire, as well as recent vandalism to the White Mountains Research Center, is ongoing.
Last week's fire destroyed the visitor center at the entrance to Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. The United States Forest Service will begin construction on a new visitor center next spring.
