Free albacore seminar tonight

July 3, 2008 |  9:24 am

Are you ready for albacore?

The immensely popular tuna are settling into the outer banks areas and catches are spotty to good, to very good. Anglers aboard the First String on Wednesday caught nearly 100. The Top Gun, Searcher and Legend were not far behind, and several overnight vessels out of San Diego were on top of schools Thursday morning. This weekend has traditionally kicked off the albacore season.

But how many opportunities will be lost because of angler rust? With this in mind, 976-tuna.com is offering a free seminar, open to the public, tonight at 7 at the National Sports Grill at 3210 W. Sepulveda Blvd. in Torrance. Capt. Dave Hansen of Liquid Coast Highway in Huntington Harbor, and Capt. Dave Reese of the vessel Hi Count out of Point Loma Sportfishing, will  share tactics for private boaters and party-boat anglers on finding the tuna, using sonar, chumming, trolling, fishing the slide with bait and artificials, and more.

The seminar and raffles will take place during 976-tuna.com's monthly meeting, and "meeting new fishing friends," says website founder Philip Friedman, is merely a bonus. For details call (310) 328-8426.
