Alabama teacher allegedly mocks special-ed students on Facebook

With the ubiquity of social networking, the teacher-oversharing-on-Facebook story has become a 21st-century news staple.

There’s the homophobic-comments version, the controversial pictures-of-teacher-simply-having-a-drink version and the insult-your-community version.

Add to the list the making-fun-of-special-ed-kids version, allegedly courtesy of a second-grade teacher in the Mobile, Ala., public school system.

According to local station WALA-TV, the teacher, Jeremy Hollinger, posted public items on his Facebook site that made ‘comments about children going to the bathroom on themselves and eating crayons.’

Parent Celeste Dennis told the station that Hollinger posted a picture of himself with a helmet to mock her son, who is seizure-prone and wears a helmet to protect himself during physical education classes.

‘Having a disabled child is not funny,’ said Latara Banks, the boy’s aunt.

Dennis transferred her child from the school and contacted the school system about the matter, the TV station reported.

A school system spokeswoman declined to discuss details of the case, but said ‘appropriate measures’ had been taken by its human resources department.

A ‘Fire Jeremy Hollinger’ page has also cropped up. On Facebook, of course.
