A 17-year-old Memphis, Tenn., student charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his principal told authorities that he did not like her and had planned the killing, Memphis police said Thursday.

Suzette York, 49, was found stabbed to death Wednesday at Memphis Junior Academy, a school with about 100 students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12.

York, who had worked at the Seventh-day Adventist-affiliated school since 2008, was found with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the school.

Eduardo Marmolejo, an 11th-grader, was at the school when officers arrived and was taken into custody. According to a police statement, he told investigators that he did not like York and that she made him angry.

Marmolejo also told police that he “knew that he was going to be alone with York, which would give him the opportunity to kill her,” Memphis Police Sgt. Karen Rudolph said in a statement.
