More hope for Dominique Strauss-Kahn

The sexual assault case against former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn continues to crumble.

One day after a lawyer for DSK’s accuser said he expected charges against the French politician to be dropped, New York newspapers and the Associated Press were reporting the case’s likely demise, citing anonymous sources.

The accuser, Manhattan hotel maid Nassifatou Diallo, has been invited to meet with prosecutors Monday -- one day before Strauss-Kahn’s next court appearance. If charges are dropped, it almost certainly will be in Tuesday’s hearing.

The New York Post, the New York Times and the Associated Press reported that Diallo probably would be told during the Monday meeting that the Manhattan District Attorney’s office won’t pursue the case. That was what her attorney, Kenneth Thompson, predicted when she received the D.A.’s invitation.

Diallo, a native of Guinea, accuses Strauss-Kahn of attacking her last May when she entered his luxury hotel suite to clean it. But questions about her credibility and lies she told to win U.S. asylum have undermined the case.

Earlier Sunday, Thompson told France’s RTL radio that Diallo felt that prosecutors had abandoned her.

Diallo and her daughter ‘cry themselves to sleep because their lives are in shambles because of what happened,’ he said in the radio interview, according to the AP.

She feels that ‘she’s being investigated more than Strauss-Kahn,’ Thompson said.

Diallo has filed a civil suit against Strauss-Kahn.
