On Friday, Atlanta rapper and Brick Squad member Slim Dunkin was fatally shot in a recording studio. At the time, police were mum on suspects and a motive in the killing.

But on Tuesday, Atlanta’s WSB-TV reported that police believe Dunkin was killed after an altercation over a stolen piece of candy.

‘The information we’re getting, it’s unconfirmed, but witnesses are saying this whole thing started over a piece of candy,’ homicide detective David Quinn told the news station.

According to police, witnesses said the fracas began after Dunkin (born Mario Hamilton) grabbed a piece of candy from another man in the studio, which led to an argument and a fistfight. It ended with Dunkin being shot once in the chest. He was taken to Atlanta’s Grady Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

After Dunkin’s death, fellow Brick Squad member Waka Flocka Flame took to Twitter to mourn. Much of it is unprintable, but the sentiments include ‘I bet my boy in a better place...save my spot, Dunk.’ Dunkin’s Facebook page has also turned into a de facto memorial wall.

Dunkin made his name in the last two years in a series of cameos on Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka mixtapes. Most recently, he released ‘Menace II Society’ on Halloween, a free mixtape that featured appearances by Gucci Mane, Flocka and Travis Porter.
