Anyone who caught Foster the People’s free Echo residency in, oh, January can rest soundly knowing they have a ‘we-knew-them-when’ trump card for time immemorial. The L.A. kicks-pumping synth-pop trio have announced a slate of 2012 tour dates that include a victory lap stop at at the 6,000+ capacity Gibson Amphitheatre on June 30 (where the group performed last weekend for KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas). Tickets go on sale Friday, with Mayer Hawthorne and the County opening the L.A. date. This comes on the heels of Foster the People’s Grammy nominations for alternative album and pop duo/group performance.

Given the platinum sales of Foster the People’s debut album, ‘Torches’ (and 3x platinum sales for the ubiquitous single ‘Pumped Up Kicks’), is the band’s 2011 rise the biggest and fastest of an L.A. local rock act since, say, Beck?

UPDATE: This post originally misspelled the name of Mayer Hawthorne’s band, The County.
