L.A. Unheard: Stone Darling’s groovy girl group

The band: L.A.’s Stone Darling, a four-piece garage-pop act.
The sound: While there’s been no shortage of indie acts reviving ‘60s girl-group sounds through the voodoo of guitar amps and low budgets in recent years, the all-female Stone Darling spices its major-key riffs with broader influences. Digital single “Can You Get to That,” a cover of the Funkadelic classic, announced the band as tom tom rockers with groove, while newer break-up anthem “I Stopped Missing You Today” offers a husky hint of “Dusty in Memphis” -- and, refreshingly, little of local colleague Best Coast’s emotional codependence.
The random: The band has earned $6,135 -- topping its $6,000 goal -- to fund its fall EP via a Kickstarter campaign, including one generous $1,000 donation. (We’re thinking either L.A. has a secret indie-rock patron or a band member’s mom felt really guilty about that last birthday present.)
The details: Stone Darling’s debut 7”, “I Stopped Missing You Today,” is now out on Analog Edition Records. The group continues to make its way through its free residency at the Satellite, playing the venue each Monday through Aug. 29.
