Lineup for FYF Fest announced: Headliners include Black Lips, Lightning Bolt and No Age

August 3, 2009 |  6:21 pm

A new year and a new name but the lineup remains (mostly) the same for Sean Carlson and Keith Morris' annual festival of bewitching, throttling punk. This year, in addition to changing the name to the G-rated FYF Fest, the booking team will be exiting the hipster corridor of Silver Lake and Echo Park and settling in the Los Angeles State Historic Park on Sept. 5.

The change in location from the Echo and other neighborhood haunts should ensure that the proceedings will be 50% less drenched in beer and sweat, but it also aligns the festival with its latest charitable concern: saving California's endangered state parks.

The Los Angeles State Historic Park is on the list of more than 100 proposed closures, due to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signing in an additional cut of $6.2 million to the state parks budget, bringing the total loss for the 2009-2010 fiscal year to $14.2 million.

In addition to raising awareness about the jeopardized park, FYF Fest will run a volunteer program. Donate 12 hours to one of the listed charities and you get tickets to the show -- put in extra hours and you may snag VIP passes. Organizations include 826LA, Change.org, Pasadena Humane Society and dozens of others.
