Coachella 2009 Day 3: Lykke Li's 'techno coffee'

April 19, 2009 |  7:11 pm

At 15 minutes into her too-drowsy set, Stockholm pop starlet Lykke Li asked the crowd if they thought it was time to wake up. They roared back in the affirmative, soaked in sweat from ponytail to gladiator sandals but dedicated to her Annie-meets-Regina Spektor confessional electropop. "We need to wake up," Li said, "to the sweetest techno coffee."

Good call, Ms. Li. Though she didn't seem too perturbed in her witchy black mini-dress, the audience was desperate for any soothing shade in the 103-degree sunshine. Three days into the festival and seemingly under a gaping hole in the ozone layer, Li needed to switch it up and leave the down-tempo Bj√∂rkisms for another day.

After dispensing with her sleeper blog hit, "Little Bit," she cut straight to the matter with "Complaint Department," a coldly snapping bit of electro. It was just the icy slap we all needed.
