‘Hugo,’ ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Dragon Tattoo’ win big at Art Directors awards

Production designers Dante Ferretti, Donald Graham Burt and Stuart Craig won the Art Directors Guild Awards for feature film Saturday evening.
Ferretti won in the period film category for ‘Hugo’; Burt earned the award for contemporary film for ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’; and Craig received his award in the fantasy category for ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.’
The 16th annual Art Directors Guild Awards for excellence in production design were presented Saturday evening at the International Ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in nine categories in film, television, commercial and music videos. Comedian Paula Poundstone was the host.
These television awards also were presented Saturday evening:
- Episode of a half-hour single camera series: Richard Berg, ‘Modern Family’
- One-hour single camera series: Bill Groom, ‘Boardwalk Empire’
- TV movie or miniseries: Mark Friedberg, ‘Mildred Pierce’
- Episode of a multi-camera, variety or unscripted series: Keith Ian Raywood, Eugene Lee, Leo Yoshimura, N. Joseph De Tullio, ‘Saturday NIght Live’
- Awards, music or game show: Steve Bass, ‘83rd Annual Academy Awards’
- Commercials and music video: Neil Spisak, ‘Activision: Call of Duty’
Special awards were also handed out Saturday. Tony Walton earned the Lifetime Achievement Award, while the Cinematic Imagery Award went to the team behind the “Harry Potter” franchise including David Heyman, David Barron, Christopher Columbus, Alfonso Cuaron, Mike Newell, David Yates, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves, Michael Goldenberg, Stuart Craig, Neil Lamont and Stephenie McMillan.
