Golden Globes: Michelle Williams best actress in comedy, musical

Michelle Williams won lead actress in a comedy or musical motion picture at the 69th Golden Globes ceremony for her starring turn as Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe in ‘My Week With Marilyn.’ The movie centers on Monroe during the filming of ‘The Prince and the Showgirl’ in 1956. Facing marital troubles with her new husband, playwright Arthur Miller, and plagued with insecurity about her acting abilities, the 30-year-old Monroe finds solace in a romantic relationship with a lowly 23-year-old assistant director, Colin Clark.

Since its release, the film, adapted from Clark’s 1995 book ‘The Prince, the Showgirl and Me,’ has been earning Williams kudos for her performance, but it’s also raised questions about its veracity. ‘I think he says in the book that Marilyn wanted to make love, but he said, ‘Oh, no!’ And you’re like, ‘Oh, sure.’ I’m sure that there was a relationship there. To what extent it was consummated, I don’t know,’ Williams said in an earlier interview with The Times.

Williams was nominated for a Golden Globe twice previously: once for 2010’s ‘Blue Valentine’ and once for 2005’s ‘Brokeback Mountain.’
