Disney’s 3-D version of its 1994 animated hit “The Lion King” earned the No. 1 spot at the box office this weekend for the second week in a row, and 3-D revamps of “Titanic,” “Star Wars” and “Top Gun” are on their way.

This story in Sunday’s newspaper tackles the debate over the 3-D conversions, with boosters like director James Cameron, who is behind the $18 million 3-D update of “Titanic,” asserting that “all of my goals when I made the film originally are furthered by converting it to 3-D.” Doubters like Wheeler Winston Dixon, Ryan professor of film studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, however, fret that converting a movie to 3-D “undercuts the quality of the film and the verisimilitude of the film.”

As the debate churns, audiences can expect to see more movies undergoing conversions. What, if any, classic movie would you like to see in 3-D?
