So, Randy Newman and the Oscar for his ‘We Belong Together’ from ‘Toy Story 3’ takes the BS gold (for Betsy Sharkey, geez) for one of the best speeches of the night. He wanted to be great television, said he’d been told how to be great television, and you know what, he was. Twenty nominations, some of the most incredible music of our time, about time Oscar checked in on him again.

And when did it become a requirement for actors to be able to sing? All I can say is I’m glad for the ones who can -- Gwyneth Paltrow had her twang, Mandy Moore had her tangle -- both did great. And then Celine Dion, who knew she could sing ... but ‘Smile,’ what a wonderful sendoff for those we lost this year.
