Geoff Boucher covers pop culture for The Times. A former crime reporter, he wrote ‘Two Badges: The Lives of Mona Ruiz,’ the 1997 biography of a former gang member who became a police officer. Boucher has been at the paper since 1992 and was part of the paper’s campaign-trail team during the 2000 presidential election, which included a stint aboard Air Force Two. His articles were selected for DeCapo’s Best American Music Writing of 2004 and again for 2006. His blog, the Hero Complex, won a Los Angeles Times Editorial Excellence Award in 2009, the same year it was named the best blog on a major website at the 2009 Online News Awards. Boucher grew up in South Florida and attended the University of Florida where he was editor of the campus newspaper.
