Wall Street: Stocks unchanged ahead of Fed meeting; gold down

Gold: Trading now at $1,795 an ounce, down 0.8% from Tuesday. Dow Jones industrial average: Trading now at 11,410.66, up 0.1% from Tuesday.

The magic hour. Investors are holding their fire, waiting for the Federal Reserve’s news release at 2:15 p.m. Eastern (11:15 a.m. Pacific time), which may announce a new effort to stimulate the economy.

Goldman’s insider. Rajat Gupta, the now famous former Goldman Sachs board member, may face criminal charges for leaking inside information about the bank.

The tables turn. The general counsel of the Securities and Exchange Commission is facing a conflict-of-interest investigation in the Bernard Madoff case.

Historic arrests. Police have been arresting protestors on Wall Street by using an obscure 1845 law that bans more than two people to gather in public wearing masks, except for masquerades.
