U.S. markets to be closed Good Friday

April 20, 2011 |  6:01 pm

Thursday will be the final trading day of this week: U.S. financial markets will be closed Friday in observance of Good Friday.

The day has long been a market holiday even though it isn’t a banking holiday. Commercial banks will be open and so will federal government offices.

Stock markets will be open for a full day on Thursday but the bond market is expected to close three hours early, at 11 a.m. PDT, according to a recommendation from the Securities Industry and Financial Market Assn.

Many European markets will be closed Friday and also Monday.
